Cuts? Cut waste!!

What a waste!

What a waste!

Prime Minister David Cameron will tell Britons Monday that “painful times” lie ahead as the government cuts public spending, but this will protect them from the risk of higher interest rates.

This is the headline to a story in yahoo! news today.

Isn’t it strange that anything that directly impacts upon the safety and well-being of the population at large is the first target for politicians when it comes to ‘cutting costs’.

Why is no-one in government looking at the extreme wastefulness of the situation regarding the unemployed, illegal immigrants, empire building civil service leeches and the phenomenal waste on our armed forces?

There seems to be carte blanche for the unemployed to work ‘on the black’ while claiming benefits. They only have to sign on infrequently and don’t even have to go to collect their ‘pay’ – it’s sent directly to their bank! Why is the system not adopted whereby benefits are only for a fixed period – not for life? Where there is such open and obvious abuse of the system, why aren’t some of the sinecure holding civil servants used to investigate claims?

Illegal immigrants are really a scandal that will continue to bleed the country dry. Very few of the illegals actually first set foot in Europe in the UK so why are they not being returned to their last staging post instead of being fed and housed by the long suffering British public? Why are they allowed into the population at large with no attempt at control?

Civil Servants are well recognised by their proclivity for creating ‘make-work’ in order to build up empires to earn salary increases. There should be a time and motion study of all civil service offices to justify the existence of each position. Industry and big business have been using time and motion studies effectively but then, they don’t have the power to simply take more money from their customers, as the government does.

Civil servants should be removed from their totally extraneous positions in the Health Service. There is a massively top heavy administration of non medically qualified people running a service in which a knowledge of medicine and the procedures involved should be a minimum requirement. In the same way, other services should not be administered by unqualified people.

Our armed forces are probably the most expensive and worst equipped of any developed country. The huge waste of money in maintaining a nuclear deterent and delivery system makes no sense at all. The USA has created USAF Great Britain and as well as having their own nuclear deterent, are also the reason that we probably should have one. The idea that anybody would bother to launch a nuclear attack on the UK is preposterous – any attack would be on the larger powers and the UK would simply stand in the bacl lash. The room for savings is enormous!

Once the need for a nuclear deterent is recognised as non-existent, it should be possible to alter the nature of our armed forces and bring their considerable expertise into making the streets and towns of Britain safe again.

Cameron should be looking NOT at cuts in services BUT at cuts in wasted expenditure. Money that buys nothing to improve the lot of his compatriots.

Unfortunately, if he made real cuts in extraneous expenditure, he would expose, to the nations view, the degree of miss-management that has been applied to UK Ltd.
